Camano Island Democrats (CID) serves as a vital educational and social hub for community members committed to advancing Democratic principles on Camano Island, Stanwood, and the surrounding area. Operating in alignment with both the National and Washington State Democratic Party platforms, CID creates spaces for meaningful dialogue, education, and
civic engagement. CID is dedicated to fostering an informed and engaged community focused on the following principles:

•  Reversing the erosion of our civil liberties.

•  Advancing human and civil rights.

•  Combating discrimination in all forms.

•  Building connections among local residents.

•  Valuing people and planet over profit.

•  Fighting for accessible and affordable health care for all.

•  Encouraging people to vote for candidates willing to work for meaningful improvements in the standard of living for everyone.

 

RECENT PROGRAMS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

CID consistently encourages residents to register to vote and make their voices heard. Our organization also supports community charitable and educational programs in the Stanwood-Camano area and beyond through the following activities:

• Providing regular updates on Democratic-sponsored state and federal bills and legislative priorities through guest appearances of our elected representatives.

• Participating in community outreach opportunities such as the Stanwood-Camano Pride Fair.

• Matching our members’ donations to the Stanwood- Camano Food Bank in a pre-Thanksgiving challenge in 2025, contributing a total of $1,200 in wholesale purchasing power worth three times that amount.

• Supporting The Caring Place’s Warm Clothing Drive to benefit the Stanwood area for the last several years. CID delivered 260 pounds of new and gently used coats, vests, caps, mittens, gloves and other clothing in 2025, topping 2024’s donations by 50 pounds.

• Examining systematic oppression through the study of hidden Black history.

• Celebrating International Women's Day by boosting Democratic female leaders from Island County and charities focused on providing health care to local women in need.

• Advocating for veterans’ and active military members’ priorities and concerns and honoring Vietnam-era veterans.

• Staging comprehensive fraud prevention and personal defense workshops.

• Working with successful candidates for the Stanwood-Camano School District races to ensure that all students have equal access to education.
